The GMP has succeeded in creating three different media outlets: Hellbender Press, a newspaper and its accompanying Web site, the Hellbender Press.com, and sponsorship of Sunday morning alternative radio on 90.3 FM focusing on issues of social, racial and environmental justice that includes thought-provoking commentary from FGS board member and environmental philosopher John Nolt. Hellbender celebrated its second anniversary December 2000, with the publication of the fourth edition of its second year. All indications are it will enjoy another successful year, with increased advertising revenue for self-sufficiently and a growing, enthusiastic subscriber base. The paper has been met with increased credibility and respect throughout the East Tennessee area, and added a fourth editor to its board. The paper serves as a forum for those who may otherwise have no voice, and as an advertising alternative for small business in the area.
The next issue is due out in early July. For information on where you can get your own copy, or subscribe, visit the Hellbender Press.com or call 671-9058 or 524-4771. You may also email editor@hellbenderpress.com. The GMP is always looking for writers, artists, distributors, advertising representatives and general volunteers. It's a great opportunity to build that resume and those clip files.
