Hellbender Videomagazine , a project of the Foundation for Global Sustainability's Green Media Project, started a few years ago with studio productions at the Community Television Studio in Knoxville, TN. For about two years many environmental scientists were interviewed and presented their work on TV. Green TV has been off the air for a while. Now, Green TV is working on a comeback together with Tennessee Green, and we need volunteers to help!

The message we want to convey is clear: humans need to change their lifestyle to cope with both the environmental and social crisis we are facing today. A first step towards this goal is to inform the public about current practices and possible alternatives. Television is an increasingly popular medium through which we can, and should, communicate our message. Unfortunately, current media is mostly driven by corporate interests. Sound alternative television journalism is therefore a necessity, and it can only start at the local level.

Community Television of Knoxville is a non-profit corporation sthat offers an opportunity to communicate with a potential audience of over 93,000 homes. It does so by providing television production equipment and cablecast facilities (Channel 12) to Knox County residents, for a low ($24) annual fee. The goal of Green TV is to gain a regular time slot on Community Television Knoxville, which means four 30 minutes broadcasts or two productions a month. Community Television is located at 912 South Gay Street (The Andrew Johnson Building next to the Union Planters bank) in downtown Knoxville, 6th floor
